Video Speed Controller brings effortless playback speed control to every HTML5 video and audio element. Available for Safari for Mac and iPhone.
The Science of Faster Watching
Speech is slower than we read. Research consistently shows that accelerated playback improves engagement and retention — and with practice, many viewers settle comfortably at 2× or above.

FAQ
What is Video Speed Controller?
A browser extension that lets you adjust the playback speed of any HTML5 video or audio on any website — with keyboard shortcuts and a draggable overlay. Available for Safari on Mac, and Safari on iPhone.
Why use accelerated playback?
The average adult reads at 250–300 words per minute but speech averages only ~150 wpm. Speeding up video closes that gap, improving both engagement and retention. Most viewers find 1.3–1.5× comfortable immediately, and many settle at 2× or higher with practice.
Does it work on Netflix and YouTube?
Yes. The extension includes dedicated handlers for Netflix, YouTube, Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV+, Facebook, and Dailymotion — plus a universal fallback for every other HTML5 site.
Will it interfere with Google Meet or Hangouts?
No. The extension is excluded from Google Meet and Google Hangouts by default so it never interrupts live calls.
Can I customize the keyboard shortcuts?
Yes. Open the extension's settings page to remap any key, add modifier combos (Ctrl, Shift, Alt, Meta), or create additional preferred-speed toggles. Changes take effect after refreshing the page.
Does it store or send any of my data?
No. Your settings are stored locally in your browser's storage. The extension does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Is it available for Safari on iPhone and Mac?
Yes. The Safari extension is available on the App Store for both iOS and macOS. After installing, enable it in Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions (iPhone) or Safari → Settings → Extensions (Mac).
